Once we turn the calendar, however, we’re facing another three or four months of winter weather. Central Indiana may not see the lake-effect snow like the northern counties, and some of our past winters have been practically balmy. But even our favorite meteorologists have a hard time predicting what’s coming in 2025. Luminocity is here to shed some light on Indiana winters.

Indianapolis winters receive an average of about 25.5 inches of snow

More than two feet of snow feels like a substantial amount, especially if we get hit by a couple of good storms that leave six inches of snow or more. Remember, though – this is just an average number. You’ll have to look back 11 years to find a winter where we surpassed that number.

Our greatest cumulative snowfall was almost 30 years ago

What were you doing in 1996? If the answer is shoveling snow, then you were probably living in central Indiana. During that calendar year, we saw 54.8 inches of the white stuff.

Central Indiana saw its earliest snowstorm in October

Back in 1989, when the kids were still deciding if they were going to be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle or the Little Mermaid for Halloween, the skies opened and delivered a total of 9.3 inches of snow between October 18-20. That’s the earliest measurable snow on record for Central Indiana.

Everyone remembers the Blizzard of 1978

You might not have been around in 1978, but we can almost guarantee that your parents remember the Blizzard of 1978 if they were living in Central Indiana at the time. Wind chills fell to -51°F. Indianapolis saw 30.6 inches of snowfall. The wind created snowdrifts that were more than 10 feet tall.

We like to load up on bread, milk and eggs before a snowstorm

Stop in any grocery store the day before a predicted storm and you’ll find it swarming with people who are stockpiling groceries. The experts claim there’s a psychological reason for this action: People are afraid of being stuck in their homes without food. Personally, we’ll take any excuse to make French toast.

Snow isn’t always the culprit in central Indiana winters

Freezing rain can bring traffic to a standstill and send Central Indiana residents to the emergency rooms with its slippery sidewalks and deceptive appearance. Freezing rain happens when cold precipitation falls through a pocket of warm air before it hits a freezing surface. If the pocket of warm air is high enough, you’ll see sleet, rather than freezing rain, because the precipitation has a chance to refreeze on its way down. Without the pocket of warm air, it’s all snow.

Our coldest temperature hit -27°F

Cold air can take your breath away, and that -27°F in 1994 felt even colder with a wind chill of -43°F. When it’s that cold, your windshield washer fluid probably won’t work and frostbite can happen within five minutes. Stay inside if we see another record-breaking cold this year.

Our past winters have included thundersnow

Central Indiana is no stranger to thunderstorms, but thundersnow is a bit different. Summer thunderstorms tend to see rapid upward drafts that create lightning and thunder. But occasionally we’ll hear some rumbles of thunder with our snow. Remember, lightning is lightning whether it’s happening in July or January. Take the necessary precautions if you’re heading outside.

Most of us can’t remember the warmest central Indiana winter on record

Snow lovers may be grumbling about a lack of white stuff during the past few winters, but you have to look back almost a century to discover our warmest winter. That happened in 1931-32, when the average winter temperature was 37.4°F.

Outdoor lighting can keep you safe on those slippery snow days

When visitors arrive at your home, are they navigating a dark walkway that hides patches of snow or ice? The right outdoor lighting can make a difference in safety and security. If your property looks dark and uninviting, Luminocity can paint it with light that gives you safety and aesthetic beauty throughout the year.

Old Man Winter can leave a mark on your outdoor lighting system

Luminocity uses durable, weatherproof fixtures designed to stand up to any weather. But extreme temperatures and variable forecasts can cause underground wires to shift and become exposed to the elements. That’s one of the many reasons why we recommend that our customers take advantage of the Luminocity Maintenance Plan. We’ll periodically come out and give your system a thorough inspection, burying those exposed wires and replacing your burnt-out bulbs with new ones.

Winter is upon us in Central Indiana, but Luminocity works throughout the year to bring inspired landscape lighting to some of the finest homes in Central Indiana. Don’t settle for a dark and dreary winter when you can light it up with Luminocity. Call us now at 317-537-8055 for a free consultation!

At Luminocity, we’re particularly thankful for the opportunity to illuminate your homes and add a touch of warmth and magic to your spaces. 2. Giving thanks for the blessing of good hHealth

Good health is often taken for granted until it’s challenged. We’re thankful for the ability to move freely, think clearly, and enjoy the simple pleasures of life. Did you know that landscape lighting can help you stay safe around your home, especially during these upcoming winter months when you might not notice a slick coating on your entryway? Plus, a well-lit yard lets you walk with confidence, without worrying about tripping in the dark.

    3. Grateful for the beauty of our community

Noblesville, Indiana, is more than just a place to live; it’s a community. We’re grateful for the friendly faces, the vibrant events, and the strong sense of community spirit that makes this city so special. Looking for some unique holiday gifts? Take your list to downtown Noblesville to check out the shops and galleries.

    4. We’re thankful for the wonders of nature

The changing seasons, the breathtaking landscapes, and the wildlife that surrounds us are a constant reminder of the beauty and power of nature. Here in Central Indiana, many of us are blessed to live on picturesque property with incredible natural elements. Luminocity can help highlight those natural resources without overpowering your yard. Park and walkway lighting, as well as tree and shrub lighting, enhance the natural beauty of your landscape. And if the weather outside gets frightful, Luminocity will help the snow look delightful with a lighting system designed to work all year round.

    5. Giving thanks for the magic of light

We’re often asked if we install holiday lights, and the answer is no, we leave that task to companies who are focused on bringing the twinkling to your home for a month. But our landscape lights are intended to shine throughout the year. A thoughtful lighting design will add dimension as well as beauty to your home. By placing lights at different angles throughout your yard, Luminocity can create multiple layers and focal points for a dramatic nighttime effect.

    6. Let’s not forget our dedicated team

Our team is the heart and soul of Luminocity. We’re thankful for their hard work, creativity, and dedication to providing exceptional service to our customers.

We’ll take a walk around your home to find the hidden spots that are just waiting to be brought into the subtle and sophisticated lighting design. As we gather with loved ones to celebrate Thanksgiving, let’s remember to express our gratitude for the many blessings in our lives. From all of us at Luminocity, Happy Thanksgiving!

20 Questions With Luminocity Owner Karl Lundberg https://getluminocity.com/20-questions-with-luminocity-owner-karl-lundberg/ Wed, 23 Oct 2024 17:59:52 +0000 https://getluminocity.com/?p=2824 When you partner with Luminocity for your inspired outdoor lighting, you’re partnering with Karl Lundberg, our owner and leader. Karl, a former United States Marine, runs his company with military precision and a keen attention to detail. He takes individual lighting jobs personally, making sure each property receives a unique lighting configuration designed to show off its best features.

Karl is more than a lighting designer and company owner. He’s a father, husband, grandfather and proud Hamilton County resident. He’s also the owner of a rescue dog named Hachi who likes to shed (and shed and shed.) Read on for more Karl insights.

      Karl: The early days

      1. Where were you born? I was born in Olean, a small city in upstate New York.

      2. Where did you go to school? I grew up in a very rural area. I attended Portville Central School for kindergarten-12th grade. My graduating class totaled 115.

      3. What did you want to be when you grew up?  I had no idea.

      4. What was your favorite holiday when you were a kid? Christmas.

      5. If your mom was looking for you and couldn’t find you, where were you likely to be? At a buddy’s house.

      Karl: The Marine

      6. When did you join the Marines and how long did you serve? I joined the Marines in 1979 and served for just under 30 years.

      7. Did you have a favorite assignment or station while you were serving? Each assignment has its own special memory.  My initial duty station was in Okinawa, Japan. I was a platoon commander of 35 young Marines. We trained hard and forged a tight bond.

My last assignment was at Camp Pendleton, California. I was activated from the Marine Corps Reserve after 9/11. Although I was trained as a combat engineer, I took over a logistics section. I wrote the order for how the equipment that was left behind at Camp Pendleton would be repaired and sent to the fight. It was inspiring to see the order implemented. The unit I was leading was responsible for providing desert uniforms for reserve units going to Iraq via Camp Pendleton, issuing security ammunition to Marine units going to the fight, handled hazardous waste, securing convalescent barracks for wounded Marines, and arranging for Angel flights for returning Marines to obtain flights home.

      8. What surprised you about being in the Marines? “Once a Marine, always a Marine” is true. The change is forever. I heard about this and thought that it was a slogan. Having lived it, I know it is true.

      9. What lessons from the Marines do you carry with you today?  You take responsibility for what you accomplish or fail to achieve.

      10. What was your favorite thing about being a Marine? Serving something larger than myself.  Serving one’s country via an elite fighting force requires sacrifice, but there isn’t a more nobler thing to do than serve one’s country.

      Karl: The outdoor lighting expert

      11. How and when did you get into the outdoor lighting business? I had always been interested in being an entrepreneur. Although I enjoyed my job as a director of marketing, it was time to make a change. I explored various options and was intrigued by outdoor lighting.  I learned about a franchise, Outdoor Lighting Perspectives, and decided to take the plunge. That was in 2005.

      12. What’s something people might not know about outdoor lighting? Using the right designer makes all the difference. You can use the best outdoor lights but if they aren’t used properly, the results won’t be very impressive. It is imperative to use the right color temperature, beam spread and lumen output to have the right look.

      13. What sort of certifications do you have, and why are those important? I am a Certified Outdoor Lighting Designer, Certified Low Voltage Lighting Technician and mentor for the International Landscape Lighting Institute. This has exposed me to some of the best outdoor lighting designers in the world. It isn’t all that much different from other skilled occupations. If you need medical care, most likely you would expect that the best results will be from the one who has received the best training. The landscape lighting industry is mostly filled by people who have never had a minute of actual training. They just started putting lights in the ground and hoped for the best. The idea of doing a thoughtful design is foreign to many of them.

      14. Do you find yourself making mental lighting improvements to houses when you drive in the dark? I have become an outdoor lighting snob. Most landscape lighting isn’t done very well. That is because most guys that design and install lights have been self-taught. They don’t know any better and just wing it.

      15. What’s your most important rule of outdoor lighting? There isn’t just one. I always ask myself, “What is the focus of this composition?” When placing the fixtures I always consider where the person looking at the item illuminated will be viewing it. I always interview the homeowner to learn what is important to them.

      Karl: The man

      16. What’s your greatest accomplishment? I don’t know if there is just one. When I was 16, I rode a bicycle from Mexico to Canada. Becoming a Colonel in the Marine Corps is very special. I have summited the highest point in 44 states with my boys. (In case anyone is wondering, Hoosier Hill in East Central Indiana is the highest point in the state, at 1,257 feet above sea level.)

      17. What do you like to do on your days off? In my off time I like to read or work on projects around the house.

      18. What’s the smartest thing you ever did? Ask my wife to marry me.

      19. Dogs or cats? We have a rescue dog named Hachi. He is a smart dog and did very well at dog school. I don’t know who learned more – Hachi or me. Unfortunately, he sheds and sheds and…

      20. What is still on your bucket list? There are still many National Parks I have yet to visit.

Are you looking for extraordinary landscape lighting? Trust your home to a man who has invested the time and knowledge to understand what it truly takes to showcase a property. Reach out to Luminocity now for your free consultation. While you’re at it, feel free to ask Karl about that bicycle trip from Mexico to Canada!

Architectural Insights: How the Right Lighting Can Illuminate Your Home’s Features https://getluminocity.com/illuminate-your-homes-architectural-features/ Wed, 18 Sep 2024 18:43:14 +0000 https://getluminocity.com/?p=2817 Enhance Your Home’s Curb Appeal with Expert Landscape Lighting

Your central Indiana’s home’s architectural features are a testament to its unique style and character. But what if you could showcase these features even more dramatically? The answer lies in professional landscape lighting by the trained professional lighting team at Luminocity. With the right design and placement, outdoor lighting can transform your home into a captivating nighttime spectacle.

      Highlighting key architectural elements

When the architect designed your home, he or she included several elements that were intended to evoke a certain response or emotional appeal. Taken as a whole, you might not notice the intricate combination of artistic details. But with proper outdoor lighting, your eye will be drawn to the details that let your home stand out in the neighborhood.

Luminocity’s staff has invested many hours in education to ensure that you get the best design for your money. As home to two of only five Certified Low Voltage Lighting Technicians (CLVLT) in Indiana, as well as the only Certified Outdoor Lighting Designer (COLD), we can offer unparalleled expertise. For instance, we’ll work to highlight specific architectural areas of your home with the right fixtures and lighting:

      • Facade lighting: Draw attention to your home’s exterior with soft, warm lighting that highlights its intricate details. Uplighting can accentuate architectural features such as columns, arches, and cornices.
      • Window lighting: Create a welcoming ambiance by illuminating your windows with subtle, downward-facing lights. This can add depth and dimension to your home’s facade.
      • Path and walkway lighting: Guide visitors safely through your property while creating a charming atmosphere. Path lights and bollards can be strategically placed to highlight walkways and garden features.
      • Tree and shrub Lighting: Enhance the natural beauty of your landscape by illuminating trees and shrubs with uplighting or spotlights. This can create dramatic shadows and add a touch of mystery.

Choosing the right architectural lighting techniques

Luminocity believes that good outdoor lighting goes beyond installing a few fixtures around the house. We believe in paying attention to the finer details, doing things right the first time and teasing out the small elements that make a dramatic impact. Our team works with outdoor lighting professionals around the United States to understand the different techniques that contribute to the final illuminated product:

      • Uplighting: This technique directs light upward, creating a dramatic effect and highlighting architectural features.
      • Downlighting: Downlights cast light downward, providing a soft and inviting ambiance.
      • Wash lighting: This technique uses wide-angle fixtures to create a uniform wash of light across surfaces.

A professional outdoor lighting expert will use a combination of these techniques to create intentional shadows and contrasts upon your home’s exterior. Consequently, you’ll see your home in a new light as its unique architectural features take on a starring role.

      Benefits of professional landscape lighting

Are you tempted to drive to the nearest big box store and make your home lighting design a DIY project? We try to warn our customers before they sink their money into a project that may not see a strong return on investment. A professional landscape lighting designer pays you back with one-of-a-kind designs and lighting insights that keep your home beautiful. You may enjoy other advantages as well:

Fall for It: 5 Reasons Why You Need Outdoor Landscape Lighting this Autumn https://getluminocity.com/fall-for-it-5-reasons-to-add-landscape-lighting/ Tue, 20 Aug 2024 19:08:20 +0000 https://getluminocity.com/?p=2805

As summer winds down, Indiana is already preparing for the colder months. You’ve probably noticed that our days are slowly getting shorter—by mid-September, we’ll no longer see daylight after 8 pm. Don’t be afraid of the dark, though. Luminocity stands ready to light up your surroundings with a professional outdoor landscape lighting plan. Fall is the perfect time to install outdoor lighting. Your foliage isn’t new and fragile like it was in the spring months, and outdoor lighting can brighten your home when the leaves are gone and we’re living in the endless gray period known as winter in Indiana. Read on for five great reasons why you should consider outdoor landscape lighting this fall.

      Extend your outdoor entertaining options

Have you opened your windows at night yet? Fall in Indiana often means a stretch of comfortable temperatures where you’re neither wilting in the heat or bundling up to stay warm. While central Indiana usually sees its first frost in late October, we still have plenty of time for outdoor activities. Whether you’re trying to squeeze a few more weeks out of your pool or you’re looking for extra room to congregate during a dinner party, outdoor lighting can increase your gathering space. Or, if you’re more of an introvert, you can simply unwind outdoors in the gentle glow of landscape lights to enjoy a quiet evening.

      Enhance your fall foliage

Fall foliage is a breathtaking natural spectacle.  But have you ever considered how much more stunning it can be with the right lighting? Outdoor lighting can accentuate the vibrant colors of your trees, creating a mesmerizing display that will leave your neighbors envious. Imagine the golden hues of your maple trees dancing in the soft light – it’s a truly enchanting sight. Luminocity can create a magical lighting design through selective use of uplighting and downlighting, letting your home and landscape be the star of the show.

      Improve safety and security

As the days get shorter, safety becomes an increasing concern. Outdoor lighting can help deter intruders by illuminating potential hiding spots. Additionally, well-lit pathways and steps can prevent accidents, ensuring the safety of your family and guests. Did you know that falling is one of the most common injuries that can occur at home? Walkway lights can help illuminate pathways and stairs that might otherwise be trip hazards. Plus they’ll come in handy in a couple of months when the ghosts and goblins are traipsing up your walkway to collect something sweet.

Increase your home’s curb appeal and value

Put yourself in the shoes of a potential homebuyer. Would you prefer the home that sits in darkness, or the one that is thoughtfully lit to accent its best features and create its own masterpiece? Outdoor lighting can be a valuable investment that may significantly increase your home’s resale value. Even if you plan to stay put, think of outdoor lighting as an investment in your own comfort and happiness.

Give your existing lighting a fall makeover

Fall in Indiana is often a busy time for homeowners, who are harvesting the bounty in the gardens they planted last spring and cleaning the gutters in preparation for torrential fall rainstorms. It’s also a good time to spiff up your existing lighting system in time for the winter months, when you prefer to enjoy your outdoor lighting through the windows of your warm home. Luminocity recommends that homeowners turn off their circuit breakers and clean the lighting fixtures with mild soapy water to remove water deposits, dirt and debris. Want to avoid this messy task? Talk to Luminocity about our maintenance plan, which keeps your system operating a peak efficiency month after month. Our maintenance plan covers a thorough cleaning and inspection of your entire outdoor lighting system. We’ll check the timer, prune overgrown foliage, and replace any burned out bulbs. It’s a great investment in your home’s beauty.

Who else is ready for fall? Don’t sentence your home to a winter of cold and darkness. Put it in lights with an inspired lighting design by Luminocity. Remember, Luminocity not only installs new lighting systems, but we’ll also work to maintain and enhance any existing lighting system you might have. Call us now at 317-537-8055 to schedule a consultation and find out what Luminocity can do for you this fall!

What are the Advantages of a Custom Outdoor Lighting Designer? https://getluminocity.com/5-advantages-custom-outdoor-lighting-designer/ Fri, 12 Apr 2024 21:06:13 +0000 https://getluminocity.com/?p=2772 There’s no place like your home. It’s your sanctuary and retreat, a place where you can relax and enjoy the life you’re working so hard to maintain. It’s no wonder that central Indiana homeowners want to do everything they can to create a welcoming space both indoors and out. Custom outdoor lighting design puts the spotlight on your home, extending your living space and enhancing curb appeal. Certainly anyone can pull together a DIY lighting scheme for their homes. But a custom lighting designer like Luminocity can take the project from practical to prestigious, creating an artistic ambiance that can be enjoyed indoors and outside.

If you’re looking to paint your home in light, read on to find out why you should consider a customer outdoor lighting designer:

      Certification counts

Luminocity’s owner and founder, Karl Lundberg, is a Certified Low Voltage Lighting Technician and a Certified Outdoor Lighting Designer.  Karl is a lifelong learner, regularly investing in lighting expertise to uncover the nuances that take lighting from fine to fabulous. A certified lighting designer like Karl not only learns the tricks of the trade, he also has a vast network of professional lighting designers whose brains he can pick when he wants another opinion.

“If you want somebody who is going to give you very good thoughts and ideas, and if you want the wow factor, we need to talk,” Karl said.

Your home deserves a custom expert

When your car breaks down, do you take it to a bicycle mechanic? After all, cars and bikes both have wheels, right? Of course not. Customer outdoor lighting designs may cost more than a DIY project, but they’ll pay you back with creativity, security, and a living space that expands beyond the front of your home.

When Karl visits a home, he often takes a solo walk around the property, both the interior and the exterior. He’s looking for the focal points that deserve to come out from behind the shadows. He also wants to see what the homeowners see when they look out of their windows at night. A dark landscape can be dreary or threatening. A custom lit landscape draws the eye outside and illuminates the outdoor structures, water features or foliage.

Custom differences can make a big impact

You may know what a volt is, but do you know what a VA is? The Luminocity team knows the difference, and this knowledge plays an important role in the outdoor lighting design world. Volt-Amps are a unit of measurement for electrical power, representing the amount of energy a device needs draw a current. For instance, a five-watt bulb may need 8 watts to convert that energy. If the lighting design doesn’t include a properly sized transformer, it may not operate efficiently.

A custom lighting design often includes a combination of uplighting and downlighting. Most people are familiar with uplighting, where the lights are mounted at or near ground level, directing their beams upward. But downlighting refers to lights that are mounted above the target, like lights in a tree that illuminate the flowers or landscaping below. Oftentimes, Karl and his team discover that less is more when it comes to lighting. By keeping certain features dark, the lighting design draws the eye to a home’s best features.

Not all light fixtures are alike

Luminocity primarily relies on high quality fixtures by Sterling Lighting or Lumien. You may not find this quality in your neighborhood big box hardware store. These high-quality lighting companies stand apart with innovative products. Light fixtures often have what’s called a CRI – color rendering index. Fixtures with a high CRI tend to highlight their subjects in natural colors. Most lighting designs use fixtures with a CRI rating in the mid-80s. Luminocity relies on fixtures with a CRI rating in the mid-90s.

Custom design comes with custom maintenance

When Luminocity installs a lighting system, Karl and his team will return at the three-month mark to address any concerns of problems. They’ll repeat the process again at six months. From there, homeowners can take advantage of Luminocity’s maintenance plan, which includes quarterly, semi-annual or annual visits, depending on the customer preference. The maintenance plan covers bulb replacement and a thorough inspection and cleaning of each light fixture.

If you’re trying to create a welcoming space that adds security while it highlights your home’s best features, you deserve a custom lighting designer. Talk to Luminocity now about your custom home lighting options. Call us at 317-537-8055 or reach out online. You worked hard for your home. You – and your home – deserve the best.

Twice as Nice with Twice the Light

When David B. bought his home 15 years ago, he loved the property, but his lighting system needed an upgrade. David contacted Karl Lundberg, owner of Luminocity, to see what could be done.

“Karl installed a system that was night-and-day different from the old one,” says David. “It was like going from a used car to a brand-new Cadillac!”

Lundberg had told David that the lights would be maintenance-free and last for a long time. David was skeptical, but sure enough, a decade has passed, and he has encountered zero problems.

“Every light fixture still looks like new, which is especially shocking considering Indiana weather!” says David. “It’s all LED, so unlike the old system where we were constantly replacing light bulbs, here these bulbs last for years. It’s about as maintenance-free as you can get.”

Over time, trees on the property have matured and the landscape has changed, so recently David decided it was time to freshen things up, add some more lights, and make the front and back a little brighter. He once again contacted Lundberg, who came out, studied the property, and presented the perfect proposal.

“He’s very meticulous and methodical. He said, ‘I think if we do this, this, this and this that it’ll really get you the desired result’ and it did!” says David. “He has a great vision. He makes a thoughtful plan, he explains that plan, and the end result is exactly as he describes it. I couldn’t be more pleased.”

Lundberg, a consummate professional, takes a lot of pride in his work, as well he should.

“He’s the best in the state of Indiana and I imagine one of the best in the country at what he does,” says David. “His lighting packages completely transformed our property, allowing us to enjoy it as much at night as we do during the day.”

David also appreciates the fact that Lundberg’s lights brighten up the long, cold winter months.

“It gets dark here very early so to have that kind of lighting during the bleak season really warms up the property and makes it easier to get through the winter,” says David. A well-lit home exterior is a welcome sight after a long drive home on late fall or winter evening.

Does Outdoor Landscape Lighting Add Value to Your Home? https://getluminocity.com/does-landscape-lighting-add-value-to-your-home/ Tue, 22 Aug 2023 18:46:36 +0000 https://getluminocity.com/?p=2632 A professional landscape lighting design brings its own list of benefits, including better curb appeal and an extended outdoor entertainment season. But can outdoor lighting also be an investment in your home’s value? Luminocity Inspired Outdoor Lighting is ready to dig into this interesting topic with you.

How much return on investment can you expect from outdoor landscape lighting?

You may be wondering whether professional outdoor lighting will pay for itself in a higher selling price. It’s a complicated question, and the honest answer is complicated as well.

To understand the value of outdoor lighting, take a look first at the rest of your neighborhood. If your neighbors have already jumped on the lighting train, your home is going to be literally left in the dark at night. An investment in outdoor landscape lighting will ensure that your home is priced competitively for your neighborhood and the surrounding areas.

It’s hard to put a dollar sign on the value of landscape lighting, though. We often hear that specific home projects like an updated kitchen or master bath will add a certain percentage of their initial cost to the selling price of a home. Certainly outdoor landscape lighting may pay you back – according to Zillow, the words “landscape lighting” in a listing helped homes sell an average of 3.1 days faster and for 1.6 percent more than homes without the list. We’ll also argue that putting a light on those upgrades is going to be the equivalent of adding an exclamation point to a sentence.

However, outdoor landscape lighting is more than just a number on a spreadsheet. It’s an investment in your quality of life. It tells the world that you’re a homeowner who takes pride in this dwelling, and it lets your home shine in any season. Don’t hold off on landscape lighting until you’re ready to sell a home. Bring the lights home now so you can enjoy them.

What can outdoor lighting do for you?

At Luminocity, we believe strongly in maximizing your home’s unique beauty through the judicious placement of outdoor lighting. Let’s talk about what else you’re getting when you hire Luminocity to add a professional outdoor lighting design:

Landscape lighting will highlight your home’s best features

A good landscape lighting designer knows how to use light to emphasize the lines and intentional design of your home. Outdoor lighting is more than just a few canned lights shining up from the ground. It’s a combination of uplighting and downlighting, using the best fixtures in the business, to paint your home in light.

      Lighting will add security

Indiana reported 12,680 burglaries in 2021, the latest year statistics are available. That follows a 10-year downward trend, but a decrease in overall burglaries is little consolation when someone breaks into your home. Outdoor lighting may cut down on your risk of break-ins by literally shining a light on the dark areas around your home.

Your home will stand out to potential buyers

Put yourself behind the wheel of a potential homebuyer who is driving down your street. Do you want to find out more about the home that’s sitting in the shadows, or are you interested in moving into the home that is already a showcase thanks to its outdoor landscape lighting? We think that’s an easy answer. Remember, first impressions are everything.

      Look on the bright side

If you’re interested in adding value to your home with a professional outdoor landscape lighting design, trust the professionals at Luminocity Inspired Outdoor Lighting. Maintenance Plans: 6 Bright Reasons for Investing in One https://getluminocity.com/maintenance-plans-6-reasons-for-investing/ Tue, 25 Jul 2023 19:54:56 +0000 https://getluminocity.com/?p=2615 You’ve invested in a state-of-the-art outdoor lighting system, and your house looks stunning. But Mother Nature is a worthy foe. Throughout the year, your outdoor lighting system may endure heavy rains or freezing ice storms. The halogen bulbs can become damaged or dim. Foliage and shrubbery can grow and block the lighting design. Wires can become exposed over time. Regular maintenance is important, especially with a sophisticated electrical system. That’s why you should consider purchasing the maintenance plan from Luminocity. Keep your hands clean and the lights on!

We’ll make sure the system is in good working order

Electronics are best left to the experts, who understand the importance of proper wattages and circuit loads. One bad connection can ruin the overall ambiance of your lighting design. Our Luminocity staff has extensive industry experience and training. As members of the Association of Outdoor Lighting Professionals, we’ve learned how to cover the smallest details to ensure that your system is working at its highest capacity. We’ll also check the timing system and reset it as needed, so the lights turn on when you want them.

      New replacement bulbs

Replacing outdoor lighting bulbs is not like screwing in a new lightbulb in your office lamp. This is a potentially time-consuming and dirty task. When your Luminocity crew comes by for regular maintenance, you’ll also enjoy pristine new lightbulbs to keep your home and yard beautifully lit throughout the year.

Doing your dirty work during the maintenance call

Speaking of dirty, the annual maintenance plan also covers things like burying exposed wires and trimming bushes and other shrubbery that can dim or distort the outdoor light. Over time, bugs and other debris can accumulate in your outdoor light fixtures. Do you really want to be the one to remove the lens and blow out the crud? Don’t worry – we’ve got it covered during our maintenance visit.  Did your landscaper knock over a few lights this summer? We’ll straighten things out and let you know if it’s time to replace a fixture. If a fixture is under warranty, we’ll work to replace it according to the warranty terms and save you money.

Bringing your home back into the right light

Every outdoor lighting design requires regular adjustments. A focal point tree is going to keep growing, and the original set-up may no longer put it in its best light. Nearby plants and foliage are organic materials and mature over time. The annual maintenance visit also gives us a chance to review your original lighting design and suggest improvements you may not even know you needed.

We’ll take care of your existing lighting system – even if we didn’t install it

If you purchase a house with an existing lighting system, you may not know who to call on for regular maintenance. Luckily, Luminocity’s maintenance plan extends to systems we didn’t install as well as those we did. We’ll take care of your regular maintenance needs, and we may even be able to recommend upgrades that bring an added lighting advantage to your home.

The maintenance plan can save you money over time

Your dad knew what he was talking about when he told you that sometimes you need to spend a little money to save money. Regular maintenance not only helps your outdoor lighting system look its best, it may also extend its overall life expectancy. Something as simple as removing built-up hard water deposits can make a difference in outdoor fixture longevity, but you must know how to do it without compromising the equipment. That’s why you rely on Luminocity.

The days are already getting shorter, and we’re going to be back to colder weather and darker evenings before you know it. Talk to us now about regular outdoor lighting maintenance, and find out if the maintenance plan is right for you. Your home deserves to shine. Call us at 317-537-8055 to schedule an appointment.

Let There Be Lighting! 6 Great Places to Add Outdoor Lights https://getluminocity.com/6-great-places-to-add-outdoor-lighting/ Tue, 18 Apr 2023 00:45:07 +0000 https://getluminocity.com/?p=2590 A well-planned outdoor lighting design can give your home the extra illumination it deserves. Not only does it add an extra layer of beauty, it also expands your living space and draws the eye to unique property features. If you’ve been in the dark about outdoor lighting ideas, Luminocity inspired lighting can open your eyes.

Outdoor lighting must be done intentionally, with special focus on light and the shadows it creates. Training matters. Luminocity’s certified low voltage lighting technicians have undergone extensive training to know how to create art from light. They also know where lighting should be placed for that maximum “wow” factor. Let’s look at some great ideas for outdoor lighting.

      Light your home first

Many people think outdoor lighting is for security only. While outdoor lights help fill in the shadows, they are so much more than crime deterrents. Outdoor lighting highlights your home’s architectural features and paints a masterpiece through strategically placed uplighting and downlighting.

      Consider the plants and foliage

Spring is the perfect time for thinning out the old foliage and bringing in new and interesting landscape selections. By placing lights at different angles throughout your yard, Luminocity can create multiple layers and focal points for a dramatic nighttime effect. Want a touch of whimsey? Consider hanging lights in your trees, which adds magic to any evening.

      Welcome your guests

Your home’s sidewalk is the first thing your guests see when they visit. Imagine how they’ll feel as they walk through soft hues that draw their attention to specific focal points while ensuring a measure of safety. Your home’s pathways are the perfect spot for creative lighting, too. Enchant your guests with fun lighting and patterns.

Put a light on the entry

A well-lit entryway can add warmth without overpowering visitors. When you use the appropriate light fixtures and placement you’ll help your guests see where they’re going without making them feel like they’re being interrogated. Lighting also ensures that you see who’s at the front door through your security camera. (It may even cut down on ding dong ditching!)

      Shine a light through water

If you’re lucky enough to have a pond, fountain or other water feature, you’ll want to enjoy its beauty in the evening as well as during the day. Outdoor lighting combined with moving water can produce a dynamic show of sight and sound to help you relax and unwind.

Light your patio, deck, pergola or outdoor kitchen

Outdoor lighting doesn’t have to be obvious. Unobtrusive fixtures can ensure that your deck or other outdoor living space enjoys ample lighting without becoming a trip hazard or contributing to outdoor clutter. Make sure the edge stays illuminated so you don’t have to worry about trips and falls.

At Luminocity, we see each home as a blank canvas that deserves its own unique outdoor lighting design. Take your home to the next level with Luminocity. Call us now at 317-537-8055 to talk about outdoor lighting options, or fill out the online form now.
