Here at Luminocity, we believe your Indiana home’s exterior deserves a springtime makeover, complemented by the best outdoor lighting options. What are you waiting for? Update your home this spring with these five outdoor ideas.

Tackle spring cleaning tasks

The first hint of warm weather has many of us enthusiastically venturing back outdoors. Did you hear your neighbor’s lawn mower last weekend when the temperatures hit 70 degrees? Now is the time to clear away the leftover leaves and debris from the fall and winter months. If you have an existing outdoor lighting system, take a walk around your property to look for exposed cables and broken fixtures. Better yet, talk to Luminocity about our maintenance plan. We’ll inspect and clean each fixture, bury exposed wires, and trim bushes as needed to achieve an optimal lighting effect. If you notice a burned-out bulb any time during the year, we’ll replace it at no charge.

Spruce up your landscaping

Stand across the street from your home and assess it with a critical eye. How does the landscape look? Are the plants starting to compete for space? Is your favorite flowering shrub producing fewer blooms each year? Landscape plants have a shelf life. If your landscape bedding is starting to look bedraggled this spring, consider an update.

One you have a fresh new landscape, you’ll want to make sure it’s highlighted with path lighting. These strategically placed fixtures will shine a light on your landscape and provide an extra measure of safety and security.

Spring for a front door upgrade

Your entryway is the focal point of your home’s exterior. When was the last time you made a change to your front door? Maybe it’s time for something new, whether it’s a front door with sidelights or a modern fiberglass door with a geometric pattern that completely updates your home’s character. Or, spring for a new coat of paint in a new color, Do you like dignified charcoal or black, or are you more into something fun blue, green or red hues? Remember, entryway lighting is always going to be an important part of your exterior lighting design. You want the front entrance to look warm and inviting without feeling like you’re standing in the spotlight. Let a certified lighting professional handle the lighting strategies that matter.

Spotlight architectural details

Your home’s unique details can look amazing during the day, but what happens when darkness falls? Outdoor lighting by Luminocity experts can create a nighttime masterpiece that continues to outshine the competition. Owner Karl Lundberg and his Luminocity team have been trained in spotting the details that can mingle with light and cast sophisticated lines and shadows. We’ll also use professional level durable fixtures and bulbs, which means good lighting for years to come.

Don’t forget the backyard this spring!

Your yard is your private sanctuary, a place to relax with friends or enjoy some quiet hours of respite after a long workday. Now is the time to make the necessary repairs and upgrade the elements that make your backyard a favorite spot to hang out this summer. Create an extra outdoor living space with deck lighting that gives the entire gathering area a festive feeling while adding safety measures like stair lights. Add tree lighting to take the outdoor area from “nice” to “wow.” Did you know that not all trees are equal when it comes to capturing a superior lighting effect? Certain smaller trees like a Japanese maple, for instance, capture the illumination at eye level. Its dainty branches and colorful leaves create multiple interest points that add to the area’s character.

Does your home have a pool, pond or other water feature? Underwater fixtures can enhance the look of the falling water, while shore lighting can capture the water’s natural movement. If you’re still getting by with standard pool lighting, talk to Luminocity about how an upgraded lighting design can make the whole area look fun and inviting.

Spring is one of the best times to install or update your outdoor lighting. Our professional staff can help identify focal points around your home that should be the stars of the lighting show. We’ll also create a lighting design that lets you stay out later on those warm summer nights. By incorporating these outdoor lighting ideas, you can elevate your home’s curb appeal and create a welcoming ambiance that will last throughout the spring and summer seasons.  For expert advice on choosing the perfect outdoor lighting fixtures for your home, call Luminocity at 317-537-8055.

Does it Make any Difference which Landscape Lighting Fixtures are Used? https://getluminocity.com/which-landscape-lighting-fixtures/ Mon, 28 Feb 2022 17:17:25 +0000 https://getluminocity.com/?p=2424 Most homeowners that are looking for outdoor lighting for their home know they want their house to look awesome at night but really don’t know much about the landscape lighting fixtures that will create the look they want. Terms such as beam spread, CRI, L70, IP Rating, brass vs. aluminum, drop-in vs. integrated, single diode vs. multi-diode, lumen output and Kevin temperature are foreign. Does it make any difference which landscape lighting fixtures are used? It sure does!

Landscape Lighting Fixtures 2

What is a homeowner to do?

The unsuspecting shopper of landscape lighting isn’t aware of the differences and sadly, most people who sell landscape lights don’t either. Even within the landscape lighting industry, many people who sell landscape lighting don’t know much more than the homeowner when it comes to knowing the difference between the fixtures. That is the blind leading the blind. It is not uncommon to find that homeowners who live in expensive homes and drive a luxury car default to purchase cheap fixtures. Most likely this is because they haven’t been educated on the differences between fixtures.

While there is plenty of “stuff” on the internet about outdoor lighting, most of it doesn’t educate the consumer about the differences in fixtures. A homeowner could spend a lot of time researching and learning the differences between fixtures on their own or find an expert in the outdoor lighting industry that can educate them.

What qualifications should a homeowner look for?

Since there are lots of fixture installers more than willing to sell a lighting system how can someone find an expert? Experience helps. As with most professions, the longer one spends honing their craft the better one should be. Those who are experts in the landscape lighting industry will have certifications by the Association of Outdoor Lighting Professionals such as a Certified Low Voltage Lighting Technician or Certified Outdoor Lighting Designer. Membership in the International Landscape Lighting Institute will ensure they are an expert in the nuances of landscape lighting. At Luminocity, our team includes two of just five Certified Low Voltage Lighting Technicians in the state of Indiana.

What makes for a great fixture?

While some fixtures are made of powder-coated aluminum, the better ones are made of brass. Over time, aluminum fixtures can pit (corrode) and if the painting process isn’t done properly, the paint will flake. Several years ago when I began in the landscape lighting business, we installed a pair of aluminum fixtures at the entry of a home. About 3 years later, when we returned for maintenance work, we were in for a surprise. Even though both landscape lighting fixtures were installed on the same day, one looked almost new while the other looked old since the aluminum had corroded and some of the paint had flaked off.

What is Color Rendering Index?

Color Rendering Index (CRI) is another important feature to consider when determining which landscape lighting fixtures to install at one’s home. When shopping for clothes have you ever noticed that they can look different in the sunlight as compared to how they looked in the store? That is due to the differences in color rendering. Sunlight provides a true representation of the color. Clothing stores often have a lower level of CRI in their lighting.

CRI is not a measure of brightness, but how sharp colors would appear under the given light source. The CRI of a light source can have a profound effect on how the walls of a home and plants look at night. The higher the CRI number the better the fixture’s color rendition. While a CRI of 80 may be considered good a value of 90 or higher is excellent. It is easier to think of CRI as test scores where 80s are Bs and 90s are As. A high CRI will make the colors of trees and the walls of a home “pop.”

How is CRI connected to LEDs?

LED lamps are rated based on how well the light output compares to sunlight. This scale is the Color Rendering Index. It is a scale from 1-100. The better lamps will have a CRI of 90 or better. Some homeowners might not care but they should. If they really want their home and landscaping to look their best they should insist on fixtures with a CRI of 90 or higher.

When it comes to choosing which fixtures are right for your home, be selective because it makes a difference. Ask the lighting designer about the fixtures they recommend and choose the higher CRI when given the option. If you are ready to install or upgrade the landscape lighting fixtures at your home, contact Luminocity for a consultation today!

Why We Love Outdoor Lighting Work https://getluminocity.com/love-outdoor-lighting/ Mon, 07 Feb 2022 17:17:17 +0000 https://getluminocity.com/?p=2298
Love Outdoor Lighting

It’s the season of love, and we love outdoor lighting! For us, landscape lighting is more than a business — it’s a passion. Luminocity has been serving Central Indiana since 2010 with more than 1,000 happy customers in our portfolio. Why do we love working in landscape lighting? Ultimately we love helping homeowners to realize their vision and create a masterpiece as we paint with light for beauty and elegance. Read on to learn why you should work with the Luminocity team — people who truly love outdoor lighting!

We love paying attention to details

Our first key principle that we believe has been key to our success over the years is our attention to detail. And Luminocity’s focus on excellence and exacting professionalism is no accident. Before entering the outdoor lighting world, Karl served our country in the Marine Corps. Although Karl retired from the Marine Corps Reserve in 2009, he still strives for excellence in everything he does, and our careful attention to detail is apparent in each Luminocity installation.

We also pay close attention to the type of fixtures we use with each homeowner. There is never any compromise for durability or quality. We select fixtures based upon the desired lighting effect because each one has a specific task and each one is made to last. We also design and intend for our outdoor lighting systems to work for a long time, to extend your time outdoors and to highlight the natural architectural beauty of your home.

We love serving homeowners

Our second key principle is service to others. Our installers love outdoor lighting talk and work closely with customers to create and achieve the vision for their home and property. From fixture selection to lighting design and installation, the Luminocity team will work with you on every aspect of the lighting process to ensure that your system gets the love it deserves. Then we follow that up with the best service possible, including our Annual Maintenance Plan (AMP)

Our AMP members get the best love a lighting system can have, with cleaning and inspection of each fixture, burying any exposed wire and trimming bushes as needed to achieve optimal lighting effect. An AMP service visit also means that there is no charge to switch out any bulb that may burn out during the next 12 months as well as no charge for any minor service need, such as repairing a cut wire.

We love outdoor lighting industry education

Ongoing education is another major part of the Luminocity philosophy. We love to learn and intentionally dedicate time for regular training on the latest in lighting design and installation safety. The years of experience and professional certifications of our installers set the Luminocity team a cut above other contractors. Karl is the only outdoor lighting professional in Indiana to have completed the rigorous 3-year Certified Outdoor Lighting Designer (COLD) course — giving him additional lighting design knowledge. Additionally, he and his Senior Installer are 2 of only 5 Certified Low Voltage Lighting Technicians (CLVLT) in Indiana.

Luminocity is also proud to be one of the few outdoor lighting companies in Indiana to be a member of the Association of Outdoor Lighting Professionals (AOLP), which has set the standard for excellence in the landscape lighting industry. We love learning about the latest trends in outdoor lighting design, and are happy to pass that knowledge on to our homeowners in each new project or system upgrade we complete.

How to Light your Home in the Snow https://getluminocity.com/light-in-the-snow/ Wed, 19 Jan 2022 17:28:05 +0000 https://getluminocity.com/?p=2267 Are you concerned about how the cold weather or snow may impact your outdoor lighting? Our Luminocity lighting experts can design your outdoor lighting system to work in the snow and all year-round, no matter what type of weather Mother Nature may bring to Central Indiana. Learn more about how we light your home during the snowy days of winter.

Install & maintain lights correctly in the snow

Thankfully, most modern outdoor lights are designed specifically to be weatherproof in order to stay outside during any time of year. However, we still recommend that you try to have them installed in areas that will be cool and dry most of the time, in order to help them last longer against the elements.

We also recommend checking on the wires and bulbs about once a year to see if they are sustaining any weather damage. With an Annual Maintenance Plan (AMP) from Luminocity, we will come out to inspect and clean each fixture, bury any exposed wire and trim bushes as needed to achieve optimal lighting effect. Investing in the AMP is also your best value because it means that you will not have to pay for any burnt-out bulbs or minor service repairs (such as a cut wire) for the next 12 months.

Decide between LED & quartz halogen

If you grew up in a place that gets a lot of snow, like here in Indiana, you may remember a tube effect in the snow caused by the heat from frequently used quartz halogen lights. It was a rare occurrence to have a dark home in the snow because the extreme heat generated by these bulbs would quickly melt the snow. In fact, some homeowners were reluctant to switch from older quartz halogen as the more efficient LED lights became more popular because they don’t want to risk having a dark house.

However, LED outdoor lights do still generate heat and will melt snow – just not as fast. If you have LED fixtures and don’t get too much snow they will do fine. However, if you get dumped on with lots of snow, your house may be dark for a little bit until the fixture can melt the show or it is cleared away. LEDs last a lot longer than traditional halogen bulbs, making them a great way to promote efficiency and save money on your utility bills, so you shouldn’t let the fear of a dark home in the snow keep you from switching to them. But if you do choose quartz halogen bulbs, note that our AMP visit also covers the replacement of all your bulbs with fresh ones.

Check the Ingress Protection Rating

If you want the most use out of your outdoor light bulbs, you can check the Ingress Protection Rating when you go to purchase them. The IP code is a system for sharing with consumers how protected your lighting, electrical enclosures and even cell phones are against dust or water. The first part of the code is the letters IP, followed by two numbers. The first number, ranging from 0-6 tells you the protection against solid particles (dust). The second number, ranging from 0-8, tells you the protection against liquid/water.

If you are concerned about snow or ice in your outdoor lighting, be sure to look for fixtures with a high IP rating against water. At Luminocity, we only use durable fixtures and quality bulbs. We know what type of fixture is best suited for each task, what lighting effect is desired, where the fixture should be placed to achieve the desired effect. We always make sure that the installation (including proper voltage) is done professionally, intending for our lighting systems to work for a long time. If you would like to learn more about how we can keep your home shining bright all year round, contact the Luminocity experts today at (317) 537-8055 or with our online form. We can’t wait to beautify your home with our custom-designed landscape lighting systems.

5 Tips for Hanging Holiday Lights https://getluminocity.com/5-tips-for-hanging-holiday-lights/ Mon, 13 Dec 2021 18:03:24 +0000 https://getluminocity.com/?p=2249
Holiday Lights

Have you gotten your holiday lights hung up yet? Some people like to get their holiday lights up even before Thanksgiving, and others are still working on perfecting their lighting display right up until Christmas Eve. No matter which camp you fall into, our Luminocity lighting experts are here to help. We’re rounding up some safety and design tips for creating the best outdoor lighting display for your home this holiday season.

Safety first

Staying safe is the first step to hanging up your holiday lights. Walk carefully if you are getting up on your roof, but we generally recommend using a ladder to stay safer and avoid roof damage. Invest in a high-quality ladder, and move the ladder as you need to instead of risking a fall by hanging off of it. And make sure to have someone spotting you from the ground whenever you’re using the ladder, especially if it is leaning against the building.

Using proper voltage

When it comes to working with electricity, ensuring that you are using proper voltage is another major safety concern. Make sure that the lights you use are specifically rated for outdoor use and that there are not any burnt out or damaged bulbs. Check the recommendations from the manufacturer and note how many strands of lights you can string together safely. Outdoor lights should always be plugged into GFCI-protected circuits, or you can try a portable power stake to avoid having cords and strands running all over your yard or porch.

Creating a game plan

At Luminocity, we think of crafting outdoor lighting displays as painting with light for beauty and elegance. Think about your property as a whole, and remember that you don’t just have to focus on one area like the roofline. Your lighting can draw your attention to something like your front entrance, or you can use it to draw attention away from another area of the home by enhancing a specific area. In addition to the roof, you could hang lights on the porch line, in trees or along stairs and pathways.

Using more than just light strands

You may think of the brightly colored light strands when you think of a holiday light display, but there are so many more ways to show your Christmas spirit through outdoor lighting. Although our Luminocity team does not hang traditional Christmas lights, we do have colored lamps that we can place in your existing features, or we have colored cups we put on some of our other LED fixtures.

Decorating for the weather

Speaking of LED fixtures, did you know that they can still melt snow? If we end up having a white Christmas, you may be concerned about the lights shining through the snow covering your lighting fixtures. In the past, when we had quartz halogen lights, it was a rare event to have a dark house because the heat of these lights quickly melted the snow.

One of the major advantages to LED fixtures is that they are more efficient and do not run as hot as quartz halogen. However, LED lights do still generate heat and will melt snow – just not as fast.If you are looking to light up your home after the holiday season, Luminocity would be happy to perform a consultation and help you determine the best lighting design for your home. Call us today at 317-537-8055 or reach out online to schedule your appointment.

Outdoor Lighting Tips After Daylight Savings Ends https://getluminocity.com/outdoor-lighting-tips-after-daylight-savings-ends/ Tue, 09 Nov 2021 18:28:40 +0000 https://getluminocity.com/?p=2242
Daylight Savings Blog

Daylight savings time is over for the year, and that means earlier sunsets and later sunrises. In fact, we can expect to see Indy’s earliest sunset times at 5:19 p.m. in early December. With all this extra time in the dark, it’s important to have your outdoor lighting system up and running as efficiently as possible. And Luminocity is here to help with some top tips for your outdoor lighting this winter.

Walkway and path lighting

Most importantly, homeowners should focus on walkway and path lighting for safety reasons. Whether you have lived in your home for years or are having guests over for the first time, you should be able to easily navigate the walkways up to your home. Winter weather and snow can make this navigation even trickier, with the CDC reporting that more than 800,000 people are annually hospitalized due to a slip and fall injury. Luminocity can help you install appropriately spaced path lighting with hidden wires to keep you and your guests safe.

Deck and step lighting

In addition to proper walkway lighting, ensure that your deck and steps are well-lit after Daylight Savings time ends. We recommend using your outdoor lighting team’s expertise on where to place your lighting fixtures, but best practice is especially to light up any uneven or awkward-to-navigate steps. Even despite the cold temperatures, you may still plan to use your outdoor living spaces, in which case you’ll want to light up your deck or patio as well.

Hardscape lighting

Speaking of decks and patios, hardscape lighting is the perfect low-profile option to light up your outdoor spaces with built-in fixtures. The team of professionals at Luminocity can select the best fixtures for each space based upon the desired lighting effect. Whether we’re choosing hardscape fixtures, spotlights, bollards or any other fixtures, we know that each one has a specific task and each one is made to last.

Wall lighting

As you drive up to your home after a long day at work, you expect your home to be bathed in light. The Luminocity lighting experts can do this with wall lighting, for a welcoming and wide spread of light on the walls at your home’s entrance. We know that the essence of great outdoor lighting is to create a dramatic effect and capture key artistic features. Our philosophy is that each project is unique with different requirements, so we’ll turn your custom project into a masterpiece as we paint with high-quality lighting fixtures for beauty and elegance.

Updating lighting system timer

If you haven’t done so yet, it’s also time to update the timer on your outdoor lighting system. If you are unsure how to reset your timer, call the professionals! With an Annual Maintenance Plan (AMP) visit from Luminocity, we will check the timing system and reset it as needed. We will also inspect and clean each fixture, bury any exposed wires and trim bushes as needed to achieve optimal lighting effect. And when you become an AMP member, any minor service needs are addressed by our team at no extra charge to you!

Give us a call today at 317-537-8055 to schedule your professional consultation with Luminocity. We’d love to keep your system running smoothly all winter long.

Light Up Your Home for Trick-or-Treaters https://getluminocity.com/light-up-your-home-for-trick-or-treaters/ Wed, 13 Oct 2021 17:41:14 +0000 https://getluminocity.com/?p=2236
Trick-or-Treaters

Halloween night will be here before we know it, and if you live in a Central Indiana neighborhood, you’ll probably be expecting a lot of trick-or-treaters. Light up your home to welcome them this holiday with help from the outdoor lighting experts at Luminocity. We know how to highlight the landscaping and home features you wish, while downplaying other areas. Our eye for lighting design will turn your home into a happy Halloween home, rather than feeling like a shadowy haunted house.

Draw attention to the entrance

When spending time outside for a holiday like Halloween, you want to draw attention to the entrance of your home, or wherever you’ll be meeting trick-or-treaters with candy. We can help you use lighting to highlight the top features of your home by knowing what type of fixture is best suited for each task, what lighting effect is desired, and where each specific fixture should be placed in order to achieve the desired effect for great design

Incorporate well-lit pathways

As you invite trick-or-treaters to your home, make sure that they can easily find their way in the dark by incorporating path lighting. Our lighting professionals can use well-lit pathways and driveway lighting to help make your house look warm and welcoming, as well as illuminating potential obstacles, including stairs. We can even add hardscape lighting to your stairs or path for a seamless look that provides beauty and safety night after night.

Utilize motion sensors

If you usually only have a few trick-or-treaters (or other Halloween guests) you can try out motion sensors to light up tricky areas of your walkways to navigate. Although we recommend some areas of your home be lit up all night long for security, motion sensors are a great way to conserve energy and save money, only coming on when needed.

Increase security with floodlights

We hope your Halloween night is a happy one, but pranks and tricks can be common with young adults this time of year. Thankfully, studies show that a well-lit home is a major deterrent to vandals, correlating with at least a 39% decrease in crimes at night. Our lighting experts can offer you a professional consult to identify the best spots to place your outdoor fixtures, including floodlights, spotlights and bollards for your family’s security.

All treats, no tricks with our AMP

Halloween may be an important night for outdoor lighting, but we think proper illumination is important all year round too. With the Luminocity Annual Maintenance Plan (AMP) we’ll keep your system operating at peak efficiency, replace any burnt-out bulbs over the next 12 months, and if there are any minor service needs, such as repairing a cut wire, we’ll take care of that at no charge.

Plus, Luminocity’s professionals are members of the Association of Outdoor Lighting Professionals, as well as the only Certified Low Voltage Lighting Technician and Certified Outdoor Lighting Designer in Indiana, so you’ll know you can trust our team. When you’re ready to upgrade your outdoor lighting this fall, it’s time to “trick or treat yourself” to a consultation with the Luminocity lighting professionals. Call us today at 317-537-8055 or schedule your next appointment online.

Outdoor Lighting Fall Maintenance Tips https://getluminocity.com/outdoor-lighting-maintenance-for-fall/ Thu, 09 Sep 2021 15:08:09 +0000 https://getluminocity.com/?p=2019
fall maintenance tips

Autumn is coming, and we’ve got all your top fall maintenance tips to keep your outdoor lighting in good shape during the colder seasons. With the help of Luminocity, your outdoor lighting system can keep shining no matter the weather or temperature. Our Central Indiana neighbors know they can rely on Luminocity for the best maintenance in the business, so check out these tips and call our lighting experts for your next consultation!

Clean outdoor lighting fixtures

Your fixtures can’t shine bright if they’re covered in water deposits, dirt or debris from summer storms. Fall is a great time to get them clean again before it gets too cold and snow/salt packs on another layer of grime. Turn off the circuit breaker to your outdoor system just in case, and you can use warm water and mild soap to clean off your fixtures. You can also use this solution or a commercial cleaner to get any glass panes squeaky clean and shining brightly again.

Clear off leaves and tree limbs

Autumn in the Midwest also brings falling leaves that can cover up your outdoor lighting. Letting them pile up may cause damage to your fixtures or the system overall. We recommend regularly raking your yard of falling leaves, and you can also take that time to check the ground for any exposed wires from your lighting system and rebury them. You can also use this time to trim any trees or shrubs to reduce falling leaves and maintain the design elements of your outdoor lighting. When Luminocity crafts your home’s lighting design using our fall maintenance tips, we always consider which trees to highlight and which to keep dark.

Update your lighting system timer

An outdoor lighting timer can be a huge convenience to your daily schedule. Rather than remembering to turn on your lights each night, your timer or smart lights can do it for you! But as the weather gets colder, you’re probably spending less time in your outdoor living space. And with the sun setting earlier every day and daylight savings time ending on Nov. 7, you’ll want to make sure to update your outdoor timer to best fit your family’s schedule and needs.

Consider investing in our AMP

Are you overwhelmed at the thought of adding these fall maintenance tips to your to-do list? Give the Luminocity team a call! Our Annual Maintenance Plan (AMP) includes all of these tasks to keep your lighting system operating at peak efficiency! We replace all quartz-halogen bulbs with fresh ones and check on the quality of any LED bulbs. We will inspect and clean every fixture, bury exposed wires, trim bushes for optimal lighting effect, and reset your system timer as needed. And as a bonus — there is no charge for any bulbs that burn out in the next 12 months, nor for any minor service needs, like a cut wire! Our AMP is truly your best value for outdoor lighting maintenance.

Schedule a fall consult with Luminocity

If you are in need of a new outdoor lighting design or would like to update your existing system, the lighting experts at Luminocity would love to assist you. We service all systems – not just the ones that we installed. Our team has an eye for great design by knowing what type of fixture is best suited for each task, what lighting effect is desired and where fixtures should be placed to achieve it. And you can always trust that a Luminocity installation (including proper voltage) is done professionally.

Schedule your consultation with the Luminocity team online or at 317-537-8055 today and we’ll have your home shining brightly all fall long!

Luminocity’s Keys to Success https://getluminocity.com/luminocitys-keys-to-success/ Tue, 10 Aug 2021 14:03:12 +0000 https://getluminocity.com/?p=2010

At Luminocity, our outdoor lighting experts are guided by two key principles: paying attention to details and service to others. With more than 10 years of service to Central Indiana homeowners, hundreds of installations under our belt and hundreds of happy customers, you’ll know that you can trust Luminocity with your next outdoor lighting project. Learn more about our keys to success and the ways we demonstrate them every day.

Paying attention to details

For the team at Luminocity, paying attention to details means doing things the right way every time. We know that each lighting project is different and will require varying degrees of planning and hard work to achieve the best effect for your home or landscaping. The best-designed projects are those that utilize the best type of fixture and effect for each specific task, which can only be completed with a lighting expert who understands the fundamentals of lighting design and installation. Our team also keeps up with the latest trends in outdoor lighting thanks to our membership with the Association of Outdoor Lighting Professionals.

Running with military precision

When it comes to attention to details, you can’t go wrong with a veteran-owned business that runs with military rigor and precision. Karl Lundberg, Luminocity’s founder and owner, served for 30 years in the United States Marine Corps, retiring as a Colonel in 2009. One common military saving is: “Service before self,” and we believe that this translates into the world of customer service and how our business works with homeowners.

Service to others

Along with an attention to detail from our military background, the second of our keys to success is service to others. For Luminocity, that means helping customers create and achieve their vision, from design through installation. We love creating a masterpiece as we paint with light for beauty and elegance. Our lighting experts always seek to bring you the exterior appearance, high quality and value you are looking for in landscape lighting systems that will beautify your home and surrounding property.

Annual maintenance plans

We always follow up on our design and installation with the best service possible. We will service any system, not just the ones that our team originally installed. Keeping up with regular maintenance will achieve the look you desire for your home – year after year. Your best value for keeping your system at peak efficiency is our Annual Maintenance Plan, or AMP.

When we perform an AMP on your system, we will replace any quartz-halogen bulbs with fresh ones. LED bulbs last much longer than a year, but we will always inspect them to ensure they are not dimming prematurely. We also inspect and clean every fixture and bury any wires that have become exposed from the weather, etc. We’ll even trim bushes as needed to ensure that your home has the desired lighting effect. We also do not charge for any burnt-out bulbs or minor service repairs (such as a cut wire) over the next 12 months for AMP members.

Let us show you our keys to success

Biggest Advantages to LED Lights This Summer https://getluminocity.com/biggest-advantages-to-led-lights-this-summer/ Tue, 13 Jul 2021 13:37:29 +0000 https://getluminocity.com/?p=1936

As you spend time outside this summer, make sure that you have the best outdoor lighting options with LED lights. At Luminocity, we use leading brands and durable fixtures so that there is never any compromise for quality. And with long-lasting LED bulbs and expert design from our lighting specialists, you’ll know that your lighting system is prepared to work for a long time.

How do LED Lights Work?

LED stands for light-emitting diode, and these bulbs produce light via an electric current. This electrical current method is much more energy-efficient than traditional incandescent bulbs which rely on heat to glow properly. The other common type of light bulbs used in outdoor lighting are Compact Fluorescent Lights (or CFLs) which generate visible UV light with an electric current, argon and mercury. Although CFLs are more efficient than incandescent bulbs, LEDs are ultimately safer and even more efficient.

Your System Lasts Longer with LEDs

One of the biggest benefits of an LED lighting system is that they are much longer-lasting than other outdoor lighting systems. LED lights can last anywhere from 25,000 to 50,000 hours, as opposed to incandescent bulbs that last around 1,000-2,000 hours and CFLs with a lifespan of about 15,000 hours. With longer-lasting bulbs, you’ll find the need for personal maintenance of your system much easier. And when it comes time for professional maintenance, you can rely on an Annual Maintenance Plan (AMP) from Luminocity to take care of burnt-out bulbs, cleaning fixtures, updating your timing system, etc.

LED Lights Are Better for the Environment

If you care about the environment, then an LED lighting system is for you. LED lights use much less energy than traditional incandescent or CFLs. And using less energy results in fewer carbon emissions and greenhouse gases. Incandescent and CFL bulbs are also more difficult to get rid of when they burn out, especially since CFLs contain mercury which can be dangerous for humans and local wildlife when not properly disposed of. By comparison, LEDs can safely be thrown in the trash or recycled with hardware stores like Lowe’s or Home Depot — plus you won’t need to get rid of them nearly as often as traditional bulbs.

LED Systems Save you Money

Although the upfront cost of LED bulbs is higher than other options, you’ll find that money back in your pocket in the long run. With the bulbs lasting longer, you’ll need to purchase them less often, and since they use less energy you’ll see that savings reflected on your energy bills. Without outdoor lighting especially, LEDs are a great option to keep running all night long to spend more time outside and offer your family peace of mind and extra security

Get More Design Options with LEDs

Another great benefit to LED lights is the range of color temperature. Depending on your home’s landscaping, or the time of year, you may want either a cooler or warmer tone to the look of your lights. LEDs can offer a range of options including cool white, bright white and warmer tones, as well as specialty colored bulbs for holiday and party lighting.
